What Will You Create?

One of the many things that brings me the greatest joy is entertaining in my home. Special moments like weddings, baby showers, Christmas, egg hunts for Easter, holidays, etc. are opportunities to bring our home to life.

When our son and daughter-in-love shared with us that they were expecting, we wanted to host a shower for her. My daughter Brooke, my dearest friend Karen and Carol, a dear friend of Lee’s, were my co-hosts. 

I wanted to create a shower that the ladies could make gifts with their hands and give them to Lee as a gift at the end of the shower. That would also create fun and excitement for the attendees. I loved seeing their creativity come to life and even laughing at their happy mistakes. It was all about the fun and making friends while honoring Lee and celebrating the upcoming arrival of Neff (named after my dad!).

I was determined to make all of the food from scratch and not use a caterer. It is more of a labor of love cooking and preparing for events like this. I am grateful to have a husband who loves cleaning the kitchen. My love of cooking and his love of cleaning have been such a blessing. 

Carol Martin hand made all of the flower arrangements as well as the flower wreaths for the front door. It was a beautiful Spring Saturday and we started around 10 am. We invited the ladies into the kitchen to start their crafts and making their onesie. Janet flew all the way in from North Carolina to be a part. She has such a gift of serving others. You can see it on her face that it brings her immense joy. She was sharing with the ladies and showing them how to use the inks, stencils and tools. It was so cute to hear them squeal, being a little scared of messing up and then being so happy and proud at their creations. Everyone was having so much fun creating that I had to stop them to move on to get their food. We had lots of fresh fruit with yogurt, veggies, a sausage egg casserole, onion dip, a beautiful cake from Frost, chicken and biscuits etc.. I tried to keep everything somewhat brunch finger food. 

We proceeded to go into the family room and I shared with the ladies that love giving a blessing over a mom-to-be; to give her a pearl of wisdom/advice on something you wish someone had shared with you with your first child. I always cry with these. It is such a sweet thing to speak into a young momma’s life about how to raise her children and not make your same mistakes.   

Karen had so many cute games that we enjoyed while Lee was opening her gifts. I loved that she had gotten these adorable children’s books as gifts, that we were to write words of encouragement, words of wisdom or a favorite verse. Such a sweet idea. We also all filled out cards of advice to put together in a book for her. 

All of the guests were so generous in their giving and Lee was thrilled and excited. We all lined up in the entry to get photos and loved on her. My heart was so full. What a beautiful day it was. The excitement of the baby to come and celebrating the gift of life was such a blessing.

HOW TO

Step One

Thin Down Ceramic Paint With Water ( Two Parts Ceramic Paint With One Part Water)

Step Two

Pour Ceramic Paint Mixture On Top Of Coffee Mug (Be Sure To Have A Bowl Underneath To Catch The Excess)

Step Three

Use A Straw To Blow Around The Paint

Step Four

Continue Steps Two And Three Until Satisfied

Step Five

Bake In Oven For 25-30 Minutes at 325 Degrees

 Instructions for Use:

1. Clean your surface before application and make sure it is completely dry. 
2. Place your stencil or lay-out your freehand design. Make sure that there are no bubbles if using a Mesh Stencil, or the medium will go under.
3. Use a ChalkArt Spreader or firm brush to push the paint through the mesh in the stencil - it must get through the mesh and not just sit on top of it.
4. Peel the stencil and immediately wash it. If there are any spots with bleed or you went over the stencil edge, remove these with a wet q-tip. Allow the no bake ceramic paint to dry for 12 - 14 hours. If you want to speed up the cure time of your piece and give it more durability, we recommend baking your piece. Bake for 25 minutes on 350 degrees, let the piece cool down in the oven. 
5. You can then enjoy using your new custom creations!

Things To Know:

- Hand wash your piece ONLY! Do not use in the Dishwasher!

- Our No Bake Ceramic Paint is food and microwave safe!

- You can water the paint down and use it more as a watercolor medium!

How To

Step One:

Measure and mix your Glacier Resin labeled A and your Glacier Hardener labeled B together. Equal amounts 1-1 ratio.  Make sure to wear surgical gloves to protect your hands when pouring and mixing. Also, wear a mask when pouring and working with resins. 

 Step Two: 

Pour your A and B into one larger cup and stir well for 3 minutes, be sure to mix the product on the side of the cup.  

Step Three: 

Pour a little of your mixed resin into a silicone measuring cup and get your Venetian Yellow Pigment ready. 

 Step Four: 

Add a little of your Venetian Yellow pigment to your small measuring cup – do not use more than 6% pigment with your resin mixture. You will want to blend your pigment very well and get it evenly distributed. Add additional clear resin mixture and mix very well. 

Step Five: 

Repeat Step Four with your Noir Black Pigment and Venetian Brown Pigment. You will want to do 1 part Black Noir and Two Parts Venetian Brown. This becomes a personal preference on how dark you want your tortoise to be. 

Step Six:

Pour in your yellow resin here and there allowing room for the brown/black custom mixed resin to blend. Allow a couple of minutes for the yellow resin to level then you can go back and add the brown/black resin with a pipette, syringe or carefully pour little drops here and there. Then take a pipette and blend the colors together gradually. 

Step 7: 

Allow your beautiful tortoise earring to dry overnight at least 10-11 hours. Then pop out of the silicone mold. If you have any residue left on your molds or surface, Clean Slate by Amy Howard At Home is a great cleaner for resin residues. 

 Step 8: 

Taking the ear backing of your choosing open the ring right under the ball and twist it to open up. Then attach the top square or circle resin piece. Close the metal circle by twisting again. 

Step 9:

Once your top earring is attached, using the metal circle hold one side with a flat grip and twist it open with your pliers using your other hand. Then attach through the hole and twist into place. 

Step 10:

Supplies:

• 2 Cups All Purpose Flour
• 1 Cup Salt
• ½ Cup Water
• Bauhaus Buff - One Step Paint
• Gel Art Ink – Grass Is Always Greener
• Gel Art Ink – Bless His Heart
• Gel Art Ink – Blowin Up a Storm
• Gel Art Ink – Hold Your Horses
• Clear Stamp – I Love You/Family
• Clear Stamp – Foliage
• Foam Dome Brush
• Cookie or Biscuit Cutters (or some other round object)

Instructions:

1. In a large bowl, mix together flour and salt.
2. In a smaller bowl, mix together water and ½ cup Rescue Restore Paint Blessed.
3. Then pour paint mixture into larger bowl of flour/salt mixture. Mix together until large ball forms.
4. Place ball of dough onto floured surface. Using a rolling pin, work the dough until it is between ¼ and ½ inch thick.
5. Use cutters to create tags, placing them on a sheet of wax paper.
6. Using a pencil or back end of an artist brush, create holes for threading string through.
7. Then place a dab of Gel Art Ink on a clean surface and load the foam dome brush by dabbing it with an up and down motion, offloading as you go.
8. Carefully dab the ink onto the stamp, using the same up down motion. Be sure to wipe off any excess ink that gets on the rim of the stamp.
9. Now carefully place the stamp straight down onto the tag, applying medium pressure to ensure it stamps evenly.
10. Then lift stamp straight up washing it with lukewarm water once done.
11. Optional: You can add little red dots/berries by using a small brush and Bless His Heart Gel Art Ink.
12. Allow tags to fully air dry for 72 hours, flipping them once daily.

FOR PAINTS AND GILDING SIZE, YOU MAY WANT TO USE DISH SOAP AND A SPONGE.
